Redcord usage with SI Joint Dysfunction

Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction (SIJD) is a musculoskeletal problem that may account for up to 30% of lower back pain. SI joint pain is typically located in a focal area at or around the PSIS (Posterior Superior Iliac Spine) at the attachment of the long dorsal ligament on the sacrum (tailbone). SIJD is either the result of hypermobility (too much motion) or hypomobility (too little motion or compression).

Functional Dry Needling

Functional Dry Needling is a technique used by Physical Therapists to speed healing, relieve pain by decreasing muscle hypertonicity, increasing joint range of motion, and correcting movement dysfunction through releasing a trigger point adhesion. Dry needling creates a twitch response which is a localized, reflexive response of a dysfunctional area. This twitch response returns the muscle to a normal state by releasing inflammatory chemicals from the trigger point and restoring blood flow to the area.

Is Physical Therapy Necessary After A Total Hip Replacement?

An estimated 300,000 total hip replacements are performed each year in the United States, and that number is expected to nearly double by 2030. The most common reason is osteoarthritis, which can either be from age related changes, prior injury, obesity, or having a genetic component.

Hip replacements have become so routine that most patients will be up and walking the same days and discharged from the hospital ASAP.

Plant Your Foot Against Plantar Fasciitis

Dave Pruszynski PT, DPT

Does it feel like you are walking on broken glass? Were you just singing that Annie Lenox song?

In all seriousness, that is a common descriptor that I’ll hear from my patients dealing with plantar fasciitis. Those first couple steps to the bathroom can be excruciating.

ACL Reconstruction: How to Brace for Return to Sport

In the United States over 200,000 individuals suffer an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury every year. More than 100,000 of these individuals undergo ACL reconstruction (ACLR) . Current evidence shows that the ACL re-tear rate is between 8% and 23% when returning to sport (Ahlden et al 2012).

Fee For Service Physical Therapy vs. Traditional Physical Therapy

High Deductibles and higher co-pay plans have forced the consumer to become their own advocate in assessing the best value in medical care. According to research by Kaiser in 2015, the average deductible for people with employer-provided health coverage rose from $303 to$1077 between 2006 and 2015. This means that individuals are paying more for health care and often at the full pre adjusted cost of services until they meet their deductible.

Is your head pain related to your jaw?

The temporomandibular joint, or the jaw, is one of the most commonly under-treated regions in the body and can contribute to significant head, neck and facial pain. Some research suggests that one half of the population will experience one symptom of temporomandibular joint dysfunction in their life, but only 3.5-7% of those will actually seek treatment.
